For the past week, we have been discussing health disparities in my Theory of Health Behavior class. If you would like a refresher on the topic of health disparities, please take a look at the HEALTH DISPARITIES visual I posted to my blog that depicts various causes of health disparities. A topic that ties into the health disparities affecting the people in our communities is the health literacy and cultural competency of public health leaders and health educators. It is evident that public health leaders need to be prepared and culturally sensitive, in order to reduce or eliminate the burden of health disparities. So, I wanted to share this resource supplied by a fellow MPH course mate. The Center for Health Literacy shares key publications and updates on this topic; I recommend using this resource to remain up-to-date with your health literacy basics, so that you can be prepared to develop and implement effective programs for all populations of people.
